Rees was immense at Bath today.
Believe he took 3+ minutes off the V60 WR.
That's an imprressive run imho.

To be frank, Mo can do no wrong in my eyes (unless he pulls a Pistorius, or equivalent) as he's the only athlete to bring me to tears (of joy). Certainly 4th August 2012 was awesome because of Rutherford and Ennis too, but I can't ever imagine anything that would hold a candle to the electrifying roar of the crowd as Farah delivered the goods at the Olympic statdium that night. Still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about it.

... having read P&D Advanced Marathoning (only running book I've read), they suggest that if not hydrated then blood volume's lower thus less oxygen gets to your muscles so they can't work as hard.

P&D use physiological data to back up their statements and in this instance it is LD that is talking a "sort of bollocks". It's been proven that dehydration impairs performance and it's also been shown that the most likely mechanism underlying this impairment is a reduction in cardiac output and therefore, as P&D suggest, less oxygen getting to your muscles. Think you'd be well advised to read more P&D and less LD

Like many others, I don't take any gels/drinks on any of my long runs including 20+ milers that include chunks at MP, just a strong coffee before I set off. That said, I do take 2-3 gels during a marathon to try and guard against becoming glycogen-depleted before the end of the race.

TR - hope the knee comes good and you get to do the 10k. Good effort getting 18 in the bag.

PP - tasty 24 miler.

LD - big week, how many "ton-ups" are you planning prior to London (I'm assuming that's your aim?).

CW - quality 20, looks like a cross between a Canova session and a Pfitzinger run.

Al_P - cracking long run, classic Canova. Are you planning the 3 x 3M as part of the long run? Canova also has a 3 x 3M "aerobic power" workout but that's done at 103-104% MP. So I assume that you're doing the Canova "specific phase" right now? Which marathon are you aiming for?

LJ, Jools, CC2 - well done on finishing the Midlands XC, it was apocalyptic

Andy D - good going at the Northerns, sounds a lot like the Midlands. Nice 21 to round out a solid week.

Cracking photo Tim.

ZaTTu - thought you might get that reference

Marigold - quality 24 miler.
