I'm a bit late joining this thread, but just to say, i have booked my place on the Halstead today and can't wait for it now. this will be my second time, last year was excellent, lets hope the weather is the same for it this year as it was last year. Suffered with an IT issue before Christmas, so just starting to get back into long runs again now, done a few 18, 19 and 20 mile runs, rather slow though, so not to hopefull about beating last years time. Anyone now yet how many people have booked for the Halstead marathon yet? |

Hi Vicar, It seems that i may have picked up the same injury as you have. i was out on Sunday for a long run, and thankfully my son came with me on his bike for a little company. I got 11 miles into my 18 mile run, and for the first time ever, had to stop as i could not carry on. i had an amazingly bad pain in the outside edge of my left knee. i walked for while, but it was hurting so bad, so i traded places with my son on his BMX, and gave him a piggy back all the way home, we did look rather stupid, but it was fun. Surprisingly, riding the bike did not seem to cause me any problems. i've not run since Sunday, and the pain does seem to have pretty much completely gone away. i get a slight niggle now and then still, so i've decided to hold back from running until next week for now. I must say, i have been guilty of doing almost nothing to stretch this problem out. i have kept up with my strength training though, weights etc, and i've been fine with that. Fingers crossed it all sorts it's self out soon for us all. Good luck. |

Morning guy's, Thanks so much for the replies, some really good advise. Well, i did it, i manged to run home yesterday as well. i have to admit, it did almost finish me of, but i did enjoy it. i was really lucky with the weather, so that helped a lot, especially looking at what it's like out there today. I managed the run home in 2 hours 16 min, with a few walking breaks thrown in. the morning run was quicker, 2 hour dead, and i did not walk. so overall, i'm pretty pleaased with how it went. i must say though, i am hurting today. the top of my legs and the side of my knee's feel pretty rough, but hopefully will be ok in a couple of days. I do wish i had refueled better during the day, as i notced my energy levels dropped of really quickly on the return run, compared to the morning run when i'd had a really good size breakfast before hand. Would i do it again?....definitely, just not to often. Thanks again guy's |
