In 2008 upping my mileage for my first marathon I started with shin pain and then tore a calf muscle. because I was a numpty. I had physio for the torn calf and she also showed me some stretches for the shin, the one where you sit back on your knees with a rolled towel underneath your feet. I think it took me a couple of months to get back to running with no pain and calf untaped. I went on to run my marathon. I have a vague recollection during my off time that I used a lot of anti inflammatory gel on my shins. I'd recomment getting advice from a sports physio if you haven't already. I do a lot more hilly off road running now than before.
I'm delighted to hear that you are such an exemplary parent CD.
Wave jumping in France for a fortnight sounds exhausting. Clearly I need to up not only my parenting skills but also my stamina.
I have a friend who adores having her children around her in the school hols and is quite desolate when the new term starts. She spends every moment of the hols doing fun creative enid blyton ish things with her kids. As a result they dont see their school friends during the hols, never get to hang out in the park, and are turning into little mini me's of their mum and dad. you can imagine what this does for their street cred at school.
