Hope it all worked out at Longford? I really enjoyed it for what it was, a small marathon but well organised and very friendly. The staff at St Mels college were excellent with the pre and post race pasta parties, so were the marshalls. I got better than my expectations. Met some characters on the way round who kept me entertained. I've now done 4 marathons, Dublin, Palma and London and now Longford and I think this was the most enjoyable. I got my PB of 4 hours and 5 minutes so that boosted my opinion!
I fly into Knock Airport on the Saturday afternoon, I've cancelled my accomodation in Galway without any charge for the Saturday night, I've hired a car so will head from Knock Airport straight to Longford. I understand that the organisers of the Galway Marathon are putting on transport to other events, I can only think it will be to Longford, as I can't see any other runs that day, but I await their e-mail about that and the refund which I'm more interested in! The transport is for entrants who have lost out due to the Galway cancellation. I'd give you a lift but I won't be nearing Galway until after the run, staying there on the Sunday night only now. Just looked at trains on irishrail.ie from Galway to Longford and although it's only 80 miles away, it seems they go the long way round via Dublin and takes a good few hours and wouldn't be suitable. Had a quick look on Bus Eireann website and again don't think anything suitable there also. I can't think of anything else. Sure there will be others who are doing Longford due to Galway cancelling.
Longford is holding a marathon on the same day luckily, it is 80 miles away from Galway. I have now entered it, as I had flights already booked from Manchester. The link for the Pat The Baker Longford Marathon is below.
I never quite believed that this race would ever take place, and now confirmation it won't. Now to enter the Longford Marathon. It's a shame as was looking forward to the Galway race but hopefully Longford will step in. Easy option was to just have a couple of days at the races in Galway instead but may still be time for that after Longford.
