all gone suspiciously quiet in here...bricking it???
went to bala last weekend which has me excited for IMUK.(saw Dave spartan...nice to catch up...and mouse...my mrs was talking to her on the run)...MrsB is racing so hoping she puts last years demons to bed.
having my shoulder op next week so imuk will get me in the mood for the brutal half.......
Good summary I actually found the short sharp climb at end of Chorley Old Rd/Shaw Brow is pretty steep and 2nd lap might be a bit tough.
Road closures and not stopping/slowing down completely at junctions & traffic lights makes a major difference on race day.
Yeah i'm afraid you've gont the wrong way there chap...on the original map you did turn left into chorley old road and go up shaw brow (and it is a bitch) but now you carry on to the a6 and then turn right into dawsons lane before the glof club.....check the new map you'll see......so that ones out.
and please please dont assume there will be no cars......you'll get priority at junctions....and they will look after you best they can with managing it....but there WILL be cars on the course so stay safe
hi mark, sorry mate i've missed some of these posts, i only came back into the country last night...hope the ride went ok.
for those asking about nutrition i once got some great advice from the guys at torq energy thats great for first timers.
you are right...one g of carbs per hour....but the body can only manage about 60-70 efficiently...so about 2 gels per hour....however...the best trick i learned from the guys at torq is think of keeping the tank full...and topping it up regularly...not letting it run out...and needing it once you've bonked.
what i do is put all my gels into a bottle....topped up with a bit of water....and take a gob full every 15 minutes...the equates to about 2 gels an hour...and keeps the tank topped up.
really worked for me and this trick alone got me through IM after my first attempt failed.
