CPJ - I was also starting to think like you. I ran 3.25 for 22 miles on my last LSR really comfortably 4 weeks before London. I could definetley have done that 10 minutes quicker. So why did I struggle to 4.20 on sunday after 3 weeks of tapering. My conclusion is, its was the heat. At no point in my marathon training did I have the chance to run in more than about 14 degrees. My LSR of 22 was about 12 degrees. Rightly or wrongly I am putting my time down to not being prepared for the heat. Not that I know what I would do differently if I had a chance. Kate- i'm impressed, How many marathons are you doing this year? Simbux - no more Londons for me either, time to try some smaller ones. |

Hi Alex, Abu Dhabi sounds great, I love the heat as long as I don't have to run in it. I tried sport beans in training but found I couldn't swallow them quick enough and was getting out of breath chewing them. The high 5 gels seem easier for me. Had 5 in London with water. I think I just took on too much liquid too soon. I am doing Abingdon in the autumn. It's flat and fast. So I am hoping to be in better shape then for a sub-4. Is anyone else thinking of running again today after VLM or is it too soon? Legs feel pretty good. Sorry, don't know how I re-posted this. |

I ran in Jamaica last summer in 30+ degrees. 4 miles was really hard. Ended up running at 5 in the morning to beat the sun. My legs are recovering so well that I am starting to think I didn't try hard enough. I feel like I should be suffering. Enjoy the pool. I'm jealous. |
