Is the new Llanelli route out yet? I did it a few years back on the coastal path, and even thought I did my 1:30 PB there I found it a bit lonely out there and also not much fun out and back on the same path and the torture of passing the finish line at around 7 miles was psychological warfare....
I'm aware it's in Newport (or at least I hope it is) and the route sounds like it's pretty flat so could be PB potential (if I put the training in). I'm just not sure about the charity aspect though. Think I may struggle to get sponsorship when I've already gone cap in hand in recent years for London marathon and people know I run half marathons regular anyway so won't see this as much of a challenge for me so probably won't want to sponsor...
Hi - I'm keen on tunning this next year but after looking on the St David's website am unsure if raising money is compulsory for entry, can you clarify what the situation in on this? Many thanks....
Great course last year and running a similar route this year just different start and finish point. Very fast and definitely PB potential, There are markers where you should stand if you are aiming for sub 1:30, sub 1:40 etc but no actual pens. I stood in sub 1:40 last year and managed to get around with very little traffic or people hindering your running in 1:32. There are always people who are a bit over optimistic with their predicted times but even if you had pens this would be difficult to police. If you're looking for a PB this is definitely the course to try it on..... Good luck!!
My first marathon yesterday, it's fair to say I enjoyed the first 20 miles then it was a case of hanging on, 3:23 which I'm really pleased with as I had to take a comfort break and I started off slower with the injuries I've had in the last few weeks. What I found tough was the traffic, weaving in and out, accelerating then decelerating, not good for the heart rate and I'm sure I paid for it later on in the race....!!! Was aiming for a 3:20 but it was never achievable after stopping tabout 200 yards after the start then trying to weave the traffic.... Great experience though and something I will remember for ever!!
