Is there anyone here not going to be using aerobars on the day? Why do other roadies not use them if they are doing a long sportive?
Also, as we are on the topic of nutrition it may be silly to ask but it bothers me slightly......where are we to store all the gels, drinks and bars on the bike leg? Anyone recomend bags, packs, cages or any other means of storing these essential whilst riding on the day?
My running preparations have had a HUGE setback. I have not run for over 4 weeks due to ITBS of my knee. Wednesday (14/4) saw me visit a doctor for a cortisone injection. As i am doing VLM as well i am just hoping it helps in time for the event.
Luckily, cycling and swimming do not cause pain so i have maintained my fitness using these disciplines.
I know the cortisone injection is controversial but i just wanted to give myself every chance to take part in the marathon as i am doing it for a charity VERY close to my heart.
I have now vowed that if i get through the marathon i will NOT run again until 1st August Ironman.
I have no idea what caused my injury as i can normally cover that running mileage comfortably. Such a shame after all the months hard work!
I have not run in over 4 weeks due to ITBS. After months of hard training i also cannot believe the timing of it. I was got my mileage over the 20 mile mark when it struck. I gave it a couple of weeks before trying to run again but annoyingly for me the severe pain returned after just 4 miles! I have maintained my fitness by cycling as it caused no pain (maybe it is still causing damage? - i dont know)
I took the decision to visit a doctor and have the cortisone injection (14/4/10) but am not going to attempt to run again until marathon day. By hook or by crook i shall finish the race but i am just praying it will not be with the pain i have suffered late on in my training.
