Thanks guys for all that very useful advice and for taking the time to get back to me. Thanks for the name of the tablets B_Kins and for advice on how to use them. Very useful and much appreciated. Not feeling so dejected now!
Just wanted to ask some advice re; leg cramping. I ran a half marathon on Sunday and about mile 9 I started to get cramp in my right leg every time I tried to up my pace. The rest of me felt fine but I just don't understand - maybe naively - why it happened? I approached the race in the same way I have my other halves- where I've never had this problem. It was hot that day but I always make sure I'm well hydrated pre race and never miss a water staion and take a couple of gels to use with me and yet this crippling pain wouldn't leave. Funnily enough this happened in the same race last year - although i was doing the full marathon that time - at about mile 13 the cramp kicked in. Sorry to warble on but i ended up feeling quite dejected - determined to try and find out why, so I can learn from it but dejected nevertheless and would really appreciate any advice anyone has. Thank you
Just wanted to ask if there is any need to take gels when running 10k races? I only ask as I was recently running a 10k event and saw the floor littered with empty gel packs I think about half way round. I read somewhere a while ago that there is no need to take gels when running for an hour or less but does this train of thought change when it's a racing situation?
Thanks for that. I know believe it or not I did only just learn of this yesterday. I asked a charity, last year, if they had any places for 2011 - my mum died last Feb of myeloma- and they said that they wouldn't be having any places this year etc but obviously things have changed and they now have a small number of places, so there go Wilkie you learn something new every day.
