The LunarRacer was the biggest selling marathon shoe of 2009 I read somewhere. It can be used for this distance. With flats, if you aren't used to them, build up gradually. You will get aches to begin with, but the Racers are supposed to be more cushioned than your average flat. Trying to find a pair but size 12 mens aren't easy too track down! |

Hi Leanne,
In April 2009 I was 25 stone 3lb. Since then, I have lost 13 stone and 3lb to reach my goal weight of 12 stone just a few weeks ago.
I started running about 16 stone, and couldn't run for 30 seconds when I first started. It took me a while to get up to speed and get enough fitness to finish my first 10k race. Since then I've completed a host of races, up to half marathon and am getting quicker each week!
I am now training for my first triathlon, quickly followed by another and a marathon to end the year.
My blog is here : http://www.runningfrommyself.co.uk/

I think it's fairly common practice to assume you don't reach 'fat burning' zones until a while into exercise. You initially use up all the stored glycogen in your muscles, and once this is gone, you will enter fat burning mode. This happens after around 45 minutes of exercise.
Long slow runs are key.
The calories seem low with the increase in exercise. I'd suggest more, especially with your height. Being honest, you are bang on weight for you height. You don't need to lose a pound.
Toning up isn't going to happen just from losing weight.

I wear them at night without a care in the World, but I wouldn't go to Tesco in them! Or near a school...
Obviously there is a point where it's just daft, but my skins aren't that tight like the cycle photo.
Also, I wear a tri suit which leaves nothing to the imagination when you've been in the pool so I guess I don't care! The only time I've felt uncomfortable was in the swimming pool changing rooms where the old ladies were staring and asking me where they could get one from...
We are all adults, we all have 'bits' and no one complains about a woman running in a tight top do they? Most love it!
