Thanks for the advice about the head torch, just ordered one now, at ??15 I can't complain, even if I don't get on with it. Just need to buy the dogs some new lights. The amount of times my collie has scared the life out of people walking in the dark last year as she ran past at 100 mph...
I used to work about 28 miles away from work and cycle to and from, or at least one way and steal a company car, I must admit, that was probably more to do with the fact I was too tight to pay for fuel, but now I work in the branch 2 miles away from my house, I have got lazy and drive in, one excuse I use is that it takes longer to get changed into work stuff then it does to ride/run. (Probably still quicker the. 5:30pm traffic) and my excuse for tomorrow is I got a puncture on the way home tonight, but I will probably run or walk in then run the long way home....
JR - Well done on achieving those impressive targets! And I hope you're wife's knee gets better soon! Most of the time my running companions are my dogs! My kids are still too young, my wife has come out a few times but hasn't been into it too much, besides getting people over to watch the kids so we can both go out is hard!
Done another 4 miles today, had a busy day decorating and entertaining inlaws, so left it a bit late, as it was dark we done some laps round one of my local parks, not the most scenic route, but my usual trail is a nightmare when it's dark and wet with no lights for me or dogs.
Anyhows, hope you all had a nice bank holiday, back to reality tomorrow! I've made a promise to myself to cycle there and back all week despite the weather!
Didn't get a chance to run yesterday, after unpacking and washing, and sorting the kids out I realised I needed to go shopping!
So I went out and ran 4 miles with the dogs early this morning, for the first half I kept them on lead (canix) and decided they were working me a bit too hard so let them off. But all in all was a bit easier than running in Florida (a lot cooler)
JR - Sounds like a good run, and enjoy parkrun today!
Hi, just read through this and you have pretty much described me, apart from the just turned 30 bit and weight lifting....(I don't turn 30 until February and don't lift weights, yet I should)
I ran quite a few half marathons a few years ago, but changing jobs, and becoming more lazy, I've been too off/on the last few years and my fitness levels have gone down to a low, and the past two weeks I've been in Florida (disney) and living on fast food, so although I have ran a fair few times, I still dread to know how much weight I've put on.
Anyhow, I used to use these forums as a motivation tool, and decided I will stArt using them again to help me. I haven't ever completely given up running, just have done it more so this last year for the dogs benefit then mine. I am going to sign up for a half marathon, I would like to do Reading again, but would also like to do one that I can run with one of my dogs (have to get used to running on lead)
These past two weeks I've run 2 days followed by 1 day off, I've only managed to do 3 miles each, but it's been so hot, and I've walked around the parks every day.
Anyhow, I have used a few training plans in the past, the ones you create in here are good, but I've also used nike+ and garmin, let us know what one you choose.
