While on the GPS subject the strap on my Garmin Forerunner 110 is about to break(again).the last time Garmin replaced the complete unit and charged me £55.I asked if I could perhaps upgrade and they point blank said NO. Does anyone know if they have changed policy? To me it makes sense to upgrade to a more modern watch and pay the difference.Obviously I have emailed them however I do not expect a reply until Monday.
I suspect that a HUGE number of the places are directly given to/paid for by charities which reduces the chances through the ballot. In 2009 charities were paying £300 per entry hence the LM make a fortune if large numbers of entries go to charities. Yes the organisation is a charitable trust they do pay some huge salaries to some employees.
With online entries it is now also very easy(Too easy?) to enter the race. In the olden days you needed to collect an entry form from a specialist sports shop and send it in via post. Now anyone can enter from the comfort of their couch with a phone/laptop. Between 1999 and 2003 I was accepted 3x out of 5 entries.Since then I have had 0 accepted from 11 attempts.
