Thanks Guys - All that you say is logical - I'm sure Haile Gebreselassie didn't notify them of his record attempts in advance - just hope that logic holds out. Apparently it takes an average of 4 weeks to decide! Haven't lost anything if they don't ratify it, as I didn't know it existed beforehand - we'll just have to break it properly next time.
Have been ticking over since the race, including a Plymvalley Park Run which is only in its 6th week. First serious club night tomorrow - think I'll struggle !
Extended my marathon high on Saturday by discovering that me and my son broke the Guinees World Record for the fastest parent and child in the same marathon !!!!
Our cumulative time was 5:42:19, which beats the current record of 5:47:58 by 5 mins 39 secs. Have applied for it to be recognised, but there's a risk that it might not because we didn't notify them in advance!
Chillies - don't think I've swum a total of 1000m in my life - sounds more onerous than a marathon to me. Just been out and run a VERY steady 2 miles - feeling better when Ifinished than when I started - should set me up for a steady one at club night tomorrow. Might have Wednesday off then !
Well done everyone - some great stories on here already - pleased that everybody is so pleased !
Got home to Devon, via Wiltshire, too late to post last night. Long drive was difficult with marathon legs - several stops and cups of tea.
Always knew that it would be Proud Dad v Competititive Dad yesterday (those that have been on the thread since the bginning will know my thoughts on this !). Pleased to say that Proud Dad won out and my 20 year old son debuted at 2:49:03. He ran it like a professional 1:24:58 at halfway and 1:24:05 for the second half !! Was in the same group as him at halfway and still on rough 2:50 pace at 20 miles (2:10:15), but legs tightened disappointingly at 20 miles and slowed by 30 secs/mile eventually coming in at 2:53:16. Not quite the sub-2:50 that I dreamed of but still a pb by a minute and first V50, so mustn't grumble.
Waiting for MG15's post - my son thinks that he was about a minute behind you which means you achieved your sub 2:50 goal - 2:48 ? If so that's fantastic - very pleased, you certainly put in the work and got what you deserved.
