Hi everyone i am 35 yrs old and new to running, started about 3 months ago unable to run to end of road without dying, weighed 15 1/2 stone and smoked 20 a day. Have given up smoking, drinking and am now running 25 miles a week and i have evan lost 2 stone and i eat more than ever! Feel really pleased and running has now become an obsession hence i am evan reading about running! This brings me to the point of this thread. I have just read Born to run by Christopher McDougal. Great book totally sold me on the idea of barefoot running. Threw sauconnys in back of cupboard and went out and got my vibrams, have done two 5ks (my normal morning runs) and have found i am a lot slower (7.30 p/km compared to 4.40 p/km) and my calfs are killing me! Is this to be expected and should i carry on thru pain? Feels like good ache not injury ache if that makes any sense? Just after bit of advice as dont want to screw things up now . . . Many thanks Matt
