Hi all

Know this has been done a few times before but the treatment has changed so much over the last few years i figure it may be worth asking again...

I have recently been diagnosed with Crohn's disease, mostly in terminal ileum, and while my GI signs are pretty much controlled on budesonide (steroid) and azathioprine (immunosuppressant) I am exhausted ALL the time. My base fitness is not as bad as I feel it should be, as after six months off running I can still run 2 miles without stopping (no idea of time as I refuse to take a stopwatch out for such a short run!), but for the next 48 hours I feel so drained it is an effort to get up and walk around, let alone go to work and function. Also find myself feeling shaky and almost like i've low blood sugar (which I don't have). All bloodwork normal last couple of times it's been checked.

Work is fairly physical and I am on my feet all day, and being off sick is not really an option so I am torn between not running and just coping with working for now, and trying to get back to running again and feeling so much better about the world. Have previously run half marathons quite happily so it's been a big part of my life and am keen to get it back but scared to risk the work thing.

Basically I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of this and any suggestions for how to cope and run through it all...

Much appreciated!

Hanna

7.5 miles today. feeling well chuffed as only been back to running for a month, and despite the fact that this is my longest run so far, every mile was faster than the one before. also pleased to have run a sub hour 10K in there, a feat which took me five months to acheive the last time i came back to running.

was however humbled midweek by some hills when away from home, which makes me realise how flat it is round here! must find some hills to practice on...

good running everyone...

another steady run of nearly 7 miles today, running nearly a minute faster a mile than last week's slow and steady 6. knee has not so much as twinged this week so really hoping we're out the other side...
