What a day, tough conditions and after 50kms or so my legs started to feel the impacts of having not run for 5 weeks. Achilles held together just fine, but my quads were agony for the last 30kms so I held it together and finished (very) slowly in 10:05. Nearly an hour slower than last year but with the injury issues I was just happy to bag my 7th finish.
Saw Jacky on the route, twice I think and many others at the airport etc. Just back to the UK today, rest this week then the Ironman training starts again!
McHilly, I recommend running with cream on. I am pale and have to when I run in SA. The one year I didnt (the up run in 2011) I got badly burned on one side because the race is one direction and its always on your right hand side on the up ... I was burnt all down that side and on the inside of my left leg. Needless to say it was very sore.
Usually I cream up first thing and again just before I leave home/hotel and it stays on all day. If you feel yourself burning the locals are often giving it out on the side of the road.
