Had a touch of the spen's at Brighton and got cramp at mile 6 that went savage on me at 19 miles and I shuffled in at 4.42. I was on for 3:59 up until 19 though. I'm all over the 9mm pace this time though. Failure is not an option - unless I get an idiot case of cramp again!!!

I ride again........... my charity have a spare place in the MK marathon so I'm heading out to banish that disappointment!!!  I figured that I don't want to build up with 4months training again but while I've got the fitness I may as well go for it now.

Spen fancy a new project?

The way I see it is a straight choice another marathon attempt or an ugly divorce. I'm sticking to social runs, half and 10ks only, well for a year or do anyway.
Emdee loved that pace until I fell off the back. One question though why was brian so far ahead of you or is it because he struggles in the home run so had to get some time in the bank!!!
Solent and juggler thanks for all the advice over the months. Solent I'm going out this weekend to set that marathon pb of mine on a training run!!!! I'm much better when I keep my own times!!

My day ended in disaster. Well not disaster but massive disappointment.
Started getting cramp in left calf at 5 miles, right calf at 12. Hit my target pace of stalking the 4hr pacer upto around 17 miles.
Met Toby. All good to here.
Then cramp meant 400 metres hobble then stretch and repeat for 2 miles. Then the cramp poleaxed me. 3 massage sessions in the st johns. 4 mile walk to loosen up peaking at a 11.5 min mile walk at 23 miles. Plucked up enough power to run again staving off cramp - just - and busted out the last 2 miles in 17 mins, I had to beat noddy.
And there concludes my marathon career. I can't deal with the disappointment again. Cramp? I never get cramp.
Thanks for the entertainment, best wishes and well done all, especially anyone who hit the 3:59 massively jealous.

Don't think I'm going to make the expo or the pre-race p**s up. I'll see you chaps by the luggage truck for the 'project'.
Tried giving up coffee before on non-sporting grounds and I made myself ill. Headache, shivers, flu-type symptoms so I'm not trying it, I'm taking extra caffeine gels instead!!
I'm concerned that my training has tailed off a bit in the last 6 weeks and I may fall short of the project target.
I met a guy today who dropped out at 18miles last year 'cos he was tired??? Wtf. I thought he was joking and politely laughed, he was not very pleased.
