Evening All, I'm not about here much these days because I'm running again.. ALOT... without pain! Waaheyy! So I've been running regularly for about the last 8 weeks without any injury issues and really feeling the benefits from it again. Before I was injured I signed up for a couple of half marathons in close succession and I have now taken that big leap and signed up for The Paris Marathon! This will be my first marathon and my target is sub 4hrs which I would like to think is a fairly decent time for a first. Now like I said, I have St Neots half and Norwich half 7 days apart in November at which I am aiming for sub 1:40's in. I'm running 3/4 times a week. Intervals 1 day a week, steady distance of about 8 miles another day and then a 10-13 miler on a Sunday My main query is, if you were in my shoes, would you write up a training plan for the marathon or would you just try and do an extra mile every week until you hit 22 or 24mile and then spend the rest of the weeks working towards getting your speed down? Honestly, I'm not really sure how to approach this so I thought I'd ask on here and see what advice people are willing to offer. Cheers all, Ken |

I was meant to do this last year but I managed to do myself an injury so it was a no go for me.
This year, I'm doing St Neots half on november 20th and then a week later I'm doing this.
I'm racing and pushing for 1h 30m for St Neots, but I'm determined to do Norwich as a 'screw you Norwich Half Marathon.. you won't beat me!' kind of thing! |

Commando style and shorts with a lining for me.
In the winter I'll wear a pair of cycling shorts and then non lined shorts over the top... keeps you in place and snug.
Don't.. and I repeat DON'T wear just cycling shorts for running, it does look like a divided sign... and no-one, not even the wife, wants to see that! |

I have a dog and he runs with me but whilst doing so, I keep him on a short lead and make sure he behaves.
If I'm walking him then I will make him sit down when runners go past, not because I feel it's what people should do, I do it purely because I want to know that no-one, dog included, gets hurt.
Dog will only attack if they sense aggression or fear, just hang your hand down by your side so they can have a sniff and keep on your running is what I do.
Dog's are great because they don't judge you... They do however poo in your garden which isn't very nice, but it's better than pooping in your kitchen! |
