Hello, I completed my first ever marathon on Sunday and loved it! Very keen to do it again next year but have a couple of questions, don't know if anyone can help me:
a) all the stiffness afterwards was in my bum and hips, so I presume these are the muscles I need to strengthen - what are the best exercises for doing this?
b) I am 42 and finished in 4 hrs 31 min and ideally would like to do it quicker next time - just wondering how long (in terms of age) you can realistically hope to go on improving your times? Presumably at some point you have to accept that you won't get any faster, and indeed will start getting slower?
Thanks, this is really encouraging. My longest run so far has been 2 hr 15 min (I haven't been counting in miles), and I've been running on and off for years but I suppose only seriously for the past year or so. I'm just wondering what I should aim for in terms of a long run this weekend - if I hadn't had the injury I'd be doing 2 hr 30 min but I don't think I will attempt this - I was thinking an hour and see how it goes?
