Iain - good to hear from you. Apologies for the delayed response!

If you are regular and confident half marathon /marathon runner this race would be highly recommended as a first fell race; Heptonstall Fell Race is well flagged (apart from one section)  A map and compass is compulsory (as are hat, gloves, and full wind/shower proof body cover) but you'll only be resorting to the map if you lose touch with the more experienced runners who make up the majority of the field; the regular fell runners will be running at a variety of paces so unless you are planning to be in the top 10% you should find you always have company. The compulsory gear will normally be carried in a bum bag unless the weather turns nasty. I suggest including a small water bottle and a few gels.

Heptonstall Fell Race is a great excuse for a weekend away; Hebden Bridge and Heptonstall are well worth a visit, and the local landscape is spectacular;  full of vast moors and hidden valleys. Most of all you'll find the local fell runners are a welcoming bunch so you'll be making new friends and downing many pints...

Hope you can join us on March 17th!

Steve (Race Organiser)

Fantastic! Will check my diary...all my running is geared to Florence on 25th so hope I can slot it in.

BTW I was reading an online article from a well known cycling magazine - Dales Etape May 2012 - one of their writers rode and reviewed thier day out - you got a mention! I hear you are a cyclist of some note? I am more of recent convert this year's Etape was my first also enjoyed CTC Audax's Season of Mists/Spring into the Dales plus the recent Mills Hills sprotive - must get some tips from you one day...

Got my form here for ALS. I was nt at Withins Skyline (I was only the tarmac of Oldham keeping my feet dry) but my mate picked on up for me. Perhaps we can toast the South Pennines race scene on Dec 31st at the Sun Inn - would be good to meet you Richard .

BTW - can you explain the format of Harriers v Cyclists? I'm intrigued....

Re collecting numbers - having been thwarted by public transport I recommend a taxi - particularly if there are 2 of you or more. Saves much hanging about particularly if like me you head over in the late afternoon as it gets dark/cold outside.I am usually trying cram in all the  amazing sights, and the trip to the stadium is not one of the highlights! Its a long way out of town and can take a few hours there and back including the time you spend in registering. Tip; Its hard to find a taxi back to town - might be worth getting the number of firm so you can book a cab for your return.
