I suspect hippo refers to Hippo (another forumite). Did 5.9 mile fell race with 1600 ft of climb in it last night. Excellent fun. |

Hope injuries are deceptively mild. Cut and pasted race report on Shining Tor from last night: <div align="left">After the odd email or two, lifts to this event were straightforwardly and efficiently sorted out and we all met at the appointed times and places in a military-style operation.<div align="left"><div align="left">Six runners and Melanie, both in support and as a driver, arrived safely the other side of Buxton at a nice little Sailing club by the Errwood reservoir for registration and a surprising lack of injury reports. A pleasant stroll to the start, on the other side of the reservoir, and some fake warming-up jogs preceded the start. One of the more informal starting operations saw us amble merrily down the road before cutting off over the grass and up a steady little hill before the gradient increased to a hands-on-knees level. Some mental fortitude was required to up the pace again as the gradient levelled out as the path at the top of the tors was reached. Pleasant, indeed nostalgic, memories for a few of us as the flagstones last visited during the longer Windgather were trudged along, and the Shining Tor trig point was reached. A nice downhill run, all too short, followed by a short uphill and a gate, led the way to a longer downhill to some zigzags. These were a little rocky here and there, but a good run. A crossing of a stream, and a sneaky uphill bit, led to a drag up to the road. A path along the road, nicely downhill, was followed by a steep section, fortunately downhill, through some woods - great for "letting go". A path across the edge of the other bit of the reservoir (I forget its name, but it began with an F), led to an extremely sneaky uphill finish, where thefinish was concealed around a corner.Managed 59' 31", for a 5.9 mile route with 1600 feet of climb. Thoroughly enjoyed it - in fact road running has been pushed off the radar a little again, as I thought it might. There's something irresitible about fell running! |

Go for it, Sportaloo, don't be cowed by anyone in your aims. With FL's hint, I have the band, but not the song..... |

Well said, Cake. My approach has always been: I can walk around if I had to, so I ought to be able to run around and so far (touch wood) I have managed it 7 times, with hardly any of them being pretty, but all an achievement. |
