I'm wondering what the chances are if you pay upfront? I'm not sure if I want to risk the £48. When four of us tried two years ago, the one who wasn't as interested in running got the ballot place - he did however at least run it.

Hi, I'm thinking of entering that as my first tri as well, although I'm coming from a slightly different angle as I've only just got a bike and haven't cycled for years.
I have swam in the lake at Eton Dorney before, and it's a good one to start in as nice and clear with not too much vegetation.
