I did it! 2hr 22mins. Very slow jog - even had a Vaseline stop! Really pleased I did it and chuffed to bits knowing that I can run without much training. I will never however do another half marathon with so little training as I'm paying for it today!
Thanks Vicky, wow, you did well only 4 months after! I have done Birmingham twice before and that hill is awful. I don't think i'm going to wear my garmin so I'm not pushing myself too hard and looking at the time. If you do run it, good luck and if you see someone very red faced walking at mile 11 say hi!
Thanks for your reply. I have gone through some of the posts and have seen that quite a few don't run the distance. In the past I always wanted to prove to myself I could run the distance prior to a race, but as long as I don't break any records and run/walk I should be fine I hope. I just know I would be annoyed with myself if I didn't even try! No not injured - not yet anyway!
As soon as I had my baby in January I signed up to the Great Birmingham Run, and got back on it (before baby I was running around 25 miles a week with a 10-13 mile long run at a weekend) by running 3 miles to start off with, then parkruns, and did 3 10k races and regular 10k's in training. I did 8 miles a month ago and that's the most I have done. So my half marathon is on Sunday and what with going back to work and my baby taking up my time it has come around quicker than I thought and I was hoping I'd be able to get a couple of longer runs in beforehand but I haven't.
My dilemma is whether I will be able to do it - whether my legs will cope. My 10k time is not as fast as what is was (before baby 53 mins, after baby 1hr 2 mins) but I can be a bit of a plodder...
So, has anyone completed a half without running the distance prior?
