Good luck for tonight Dean and Stevie See!

Did some steeplechase training last night as it happens, after 6x600's at 3k pace with 3mibs rec. I seem to be able to hurdle them ok but as I get tired lose all rhythm and have to put a foot on the barrier with just slows you and gives more lactic into the legs. A painful racing experience is steeplechase.!

Unlucky again Stevie, was it windy? Arnt your taper weeks still quite high mileage also? If your doing 50miles a week before a race its just not going to happen!

Park run sounded tough today Matt, I know whats you mean about busting a gut, I though I needed an ambulance last 2k of Silverstone 10k, shocking splits of 17:29, then 18:25! Was 6.36 miles of gales though so not sure how that works out.

Thanks all for the comments, I will persevere and see what comes, SG possibly a mental block during road races, but just think my energy return is better than others over xc terrain. My training has been lacking in all areas since the xc season finished, not enough speed work as you mentioned Dean, lack of long runs and mileage in general. I think manual work, being a builder, has just knocked me for six and fatigue in an issue. General fitness seems OK, breezing through sub 7min miles off road and 6:45 road miles. Working away next 3 wks so will be training with my old man and his athletes. So speed work will be aplenty. Bit late to get in shape for county 5000m in two weeks though.

I had a look at the Watford 3000m results SG, some of the athletes you mentioned in the b race are my old mans runners, think they ran 8 37, 8:59 and 9:19 so shifting fairly. Seb is my main training partner when I'm down south. Talking of training partners Alex who is also an old club mate just won the BUCS 10000m in sub 31! Moved to uni now though.

good luck tomorrow SG, missed what race your doing?

Congratulations Matt, does sound like an ordeal glad they are both fine. Did you know it was going to be a girl? I just couldn't deal with not knowing!

Good luck whoever is racing, 3k today eh Stevie, hope your feeling abit better than prior to last weekends  10k! Shame about the wind.

Cracking run last weekend Dachs! Looks like you were correct at the training paces showing a leap in fitness.

just finished the last mega work week, so training and performances with hopefully return to normal soon. Had a shocker at Silverstone 10k this week, only just went sub 36. If this trend keeps up I'll not be road racing much in the future, just too demoralising.

SG running a track race, the mind boggles. Shame you weren't in the faster race I think you would have gone faster. good run though, I've not ran 3k for a long time, should get the chance at a midlands league match.

Unlucky with the niggle Dean shame about missing the 1500 too. That is a very hard 10day training streak you did, get some good recovery in and hope your back at it next week.

It did turn out to be a painful 10000m tonight, on target  through 3k in 10:10, then drifted off pace. 5k in 17:09 feeling strong, then took the pace on at the front of a group but the breeze down the home straight just seemed to drain the legs of power! Faded to a new PB of around 34:45. Should be happy will that but thought I'd manage faster. Find out next week on the road.

Need some faster training now as attempting 5k at the county champs in afew weeks.

Dean - Masters 10000m what time got a medal last year? Could be interesting if there is a pack and nobody takes the pace on, a proper race.

Just did the reps at 34min pace, so 81.5/lap with 66secs recovery. Not a session Id normally do but needed to gauge fitness. Normally run faster (5k pace) with longer recovery

Bus just been really busy last 6 wks, not been running even maintenance mileage, so Thursday could be painful. Doing Sileverstone 10K next week too.
