Good to see you again BK - and congratulations on your result. I found it pretty relentless this year, lack of biking fitness let me down a bit so finished in 1:47 overall. Great event though - see you for more of the same at Boneshaker hopefully...
You made the right move there, rocks! The conditions were really bad - thick sticky mud mixed up with leaves, twigs and grass. Being a multi lap course with a big field it got more and more churned up - I got half way through before my bike totally ground to a halt, I couldn't even push it... After that it was a case of struggling on for 200m at a time then stopping to poke at the mud with a stick, and I wasn't the only one having problems either. I ended up *carrying* my bike up the last hill - altogether it took me 1:44 to do a 10-mile bike ride!! It must be the first time I've actually been glad to start the second run. A shame really as it was a nice event apart from that.
Hurrah it's Monsterman time again! I'm looking forward to this one, and hoping it will be somewhat more enjoyable than the mudbath nightmare at the Tomac duathlon last month.....
More young people are getting it too, so I don't think you can put it purely down to increased lifespans.
Of course treatments have improved survival rates, my point was that prevention is better than cure. Even the treatments that work are often extremely unpleasant and have side-effects.
