| Luckily breathing is only an optional extra on an all-day session! |

Just been reading about Paula Radcliffe's training regime in the latest RW, as well as all the tips and inspirational articles. There seem to be a lot of very keen and dedicated runners out there and good luck to 'em.
Unfortunately my training regime is straight from the old days of amateur rugby union - work hard, then get hammered with the lads! As hard as I've tried to keep out of the pub, I just carn't do it. I'm in training for the Rotterdam marathon and I've been putting in the distances, but the ultimate sacrifice of temperance is beyond me. Last Sunday was an all-dayer watching the game, accompanied by 40 fags and a big fry-up.
Less than two weeks to go and I'm slightly nervous. Thankfully the internationals have finished for a bit, so there's an outside chance the breweries will have a slight dip in their subsidy from me!
Being a stubborn git I'll try to grind me way around the course. I hate to say it, but the incentive I use on my long runs (for me 13/14 miles +) is to spark up afterwards with a can.
Don't think Paula will be using my new techniques in her schedules! |

Hi
Well done to all who finished. From reading the forum there seem to have been lots of PB's.
I had a mare of a run - in fact it was the worse half marathon I've done so I feel a bit down in the dumps. Just couldn't get into it and I found the hills hellish.
The marshalls were great - my one criticism would be there were no showers, or none that I could find, and by the time I got back to my car I was frozen to the bone. Luckily I found solace in beer on my return home! |

| Does this mean there is going to be a shotage of Guinness in Rotterdam on the 13th? Is our extra incentive to do a good time to get to the bar before the hordes of thirsty Brits? |

Hi Eeyin
Thanks for the advice on the ale and where to get it. I'm soon to enter a deep, dark period of temperance in preperation for the race, so knowing there will be cool pint of Guinness at the end will act as my guiding light. Not that I have a huge desire to resort to the desperate stakes of teetotalism, but I think it is the only way I will be able to do all the training and survive. I aim to get horribly drunk afterwards!
My trip is from the Saturday to the Monday and I think it may even be the Hilton I am staying in - I booked through the LPG lot who have a link on these pages, but carn't remember all the details. My lass is coming as a non-racing strecher bearer to carry me from bar to bar once the race is over - who said romance is dead!
Good luck in your preperations and if we bump into each other we'll have to compare notes in O'Sheas!
Cheers
Andy
