We are pleased to announce the inaugural 10K. Many will remember the original Mel Batty 10 mile race. This new race will cover some of the old route starting and finishing on the Blackshots track.
Mel broke the World Record for 10 miles in 1964. His time was 47minutes 26.8 seconds. He died in September last year and we felt that we could honour his memory by reviving the Mel Batty 10.
We are delighted that Brooks Sports Shoes, with whom Mel was associated for many years, is sponsoring our race and providing the prizes. T-shirts will be provided to every finisher. Entries received before 18th August will be sent via post. On the day entries will only be accepted if the maximum number of 400 runners has not been reached.
Parking is available at either Impulse Leisure, Blackshots Lane, Grays or as directed on the day.
Entry fee's are £10 for affiliated and £12 for non-affiliated runners. The course has potential to be a very fast one, so please sign up today and spread the word.
Entry Forms can be found at http://www.thurrockharriers.co.uk/#!mel-batty-10k
Thanks for the comments guys. I ran a 5mile tempo last week in 29 06 on my own off the back of a 48 mile week (my highest ever). Also done a 13 44 4km tempo in that week before. Feeling as strong as i have ever done, the 5k was quite a suprise... i was running quite bad for the 3/4 weeks before, dropped out of my session (1200's) the tueday before the saturday race. Just ran it with no pressure and conservative splits! ranging from 3 25-3 16... so obviously think theres more to come.
I was thinking of going off at 35 30 pace and see how i go....
im also interested with 'chings' last sentence, is it really accessible?
