Last week, when drying off after showering I placed my foot flat on the wall and straightened my leg (like when streching hamstrings) and felt an immediate OUCH in the area of my left heel. Its a sharp pain, vertical, in a thin line (feels like) down the back of my heel to just under the rear of my foot. I can reproduce it anytime by straightening my leg and pulling my toes towards my face.

Not been running much recently, so this is not related to overuse. Its been more than a week now so any alternatives to a trip to a sports podiatrist? Any suggestions welcome...

Got to be an Ipod Nano then perhaps?  My gf has just gone the exact same route. She did not want to take her ipod classic out in the rain any more.

The Nano is much smaller and lighter, uses flash memory, armbands are easily obtainable and most importantly you can manage it using the same iTunes software and playlists that you use for your ipod. Apple's website says its fine to manage multiple ipods/nanos etc.  That is the killer advantage. If you get another brand then you need to have a second application to manage the playlists, otherwise you are into drag and drop of files etc and that all gets messy...

I have gone through several pairs of Salomon XA Pro trail shoes, love 'em. No need to wear them in, they last well, great grip, good on road, nice lacing system etc.  But one minor niggle was that they were not quite wide enough for my bumpy left foot.

Then I found online, from US suppliers only, the M+ version. This is a wide version of the shoe and its great. Seems identical in fit and wear, just a bit wider and more volume than the regular ones. Ideal for us big-foots

I have only been able to find these in the US and Wiggle did not have anything sensible to say when I asked them about supply. So, if you are a fan of these shoes (and it seems they have a lot of fans) and want the wide option then get emailing to your normal supplier. Maybe then Salomon UK will get the feedback and start selling them here too. Ta...
