I've done two events at this venue of late - October '11 and yesterday. The course has a lot of PB potential but is VERY dull. The organisation of both events has been, I am afraid to say, RUBBISH. October's 10k suffered a false start! After 600 metres! Yesterday's race start was delayed by someone's car being towed from the car park. The tannoy messages were unintelligable. So I feel sorry for whoever suffered the towing of their car as they had no chance of understanding the warning messages - lol! Personally I don't run in order to get goody bags but I do enjoy a GOOD medal and/or technical tee. October saw finishers receive a flapjack and a pen. Yesterday it was a very cheap medal and an imitation Twix! I'd rather the organiser's didn't bother, to be honest, rather than offer something cheap. I won't be back to Stanley Park to race any time soon. Conversely, I raced the Windmill 10k last year which was organised by the same Club. This was an excellent race, smoothly organised and felt altogether more professional on a much more interesting course. It's a bit of a mystery to me how the same Club can organise such vastly different race experiences. I wonder if there is something about Stanley Park... Interested in your thoughts. But, please, don't get shirty. This is my opinion. I think I have expressed it fairly. |
