It's great that you seem to have got the ITBS under control and that the runningphysio link was a big help. Great that you seem to have located the route of the problem as a weakness in one leg.
Most people have a dominant side when running or doing sport of any kind... therefor when you go back to running make sure that you pay attention to your running stride to see if there are any differences between sides. If it doesn't say it on the runningphysio site, it would be a good idea to continue to do the strengthening exercise for a least 3 - 6 weeks once back to running + stretch the ITB and gluteal region. Most runners are tight in this region and it can help with running stride King Pigon is a good stretch along with the adapted elephant pose. Its good to try and work up to 90 sec + in the stretches and do both sides 2 - 3 times (but work up to it ).
Umm it's a tuff one as runners do need to be able to hear instruction from marshalls. I usually train with music but don't use it during an event for social reasons. Have seen other use them and never had any problems. However when you catch up to someone and say Hi, it does seem off putting when they are 'pluged in', but not offensive. Each to their own.
What about 'half volume' during events........... don't think you could enforce that though!!
Been trying hard for the past year (or so, when I write down the time I can't believe it's been so long!!) to find a schedule that works for getting more than one or two training runs in a week. Mainly due to the kids getting older (and needing more of my time rather than less? how does that work) and juggling full time work and a husband that never gets home before 9pm.
Usually I end up taking my littlies out for a mile or so run during the week if we have time, and although I enjoy running with them, it's more of a fast walk and I always want to continue with a run for myself.
But last night I think I found the answer..... if I had been on these type of forums before some of you would have probably have given me the answer at an earlier time! hehe.... Anyway the evening here last night was lovely, so I really wanted to get in a 30 min run at least, so instead of running with the littlies I put them on their bikes instead and ran along side my daughter as my son went on ahead . It worked..... I can't believe it........ 45 minutes later we returned home and it felt like I had worked my legs a little. They both enjoyed cycling in the evening sun too which is great. Much better than being inside on the cross-trainer .
