Seren - I said deer in my post, but in reality quite a few, much smaller animals have made me jump too. The worst might actually be pheasants who come flapping out of the hedges screeching their alarm call at you. Far scarier than a hypothetical weirdo who has been hanging out in the woods for hours on end just in case some defenceless female comes trotting past!
It's never even crossed my mind to carry a personal alarm! The majority of my runs are off road through fields and woods where I feel a lot safer than running in cities. Normally the only I time I get a fright is if I'm running at night and a deer jumps out in front of me!
I've got the Adistar Boost. I've had them for a few months now and I really enjoy running in them. The longest distance I've done is 12 miles in them and I find them really comfy. The only criticism I have is that they have a deep groove in the sole towards the heel which picks up stones which can be quite annoying.
