Two weeks ago after a 13k run, my foot felt really unstable and was hurting like crazy along the peroneal tendon. It got okay in about two days but the next week when I ran 7k, the pain came back and it was worse than the first time. Was limping for a couple of days. I haven't run for about ten days now and my foot feels a lot better though it is not entirely okay. I can't feel anything most of the time but it's slightly achy and a little swollen (this I think has to do with a mild case of plantar fasciitis as the swelling has pretty much been there for the past two months and never subsides completely). I am really frustrated from not running though. Have a 10k race coming up on 18th November as well so want to get in shape for that. Is it safe for me to start running again, or will the foot pain come back with a vengeance? Of course no one can say for sure, but any thoughts will be appreciated. |

Hi Emma. How is your foot now. I am having a similar issue. A couple of weeks ago, after running 13k my foot was in bad shape and hurting exactly where the peroneal tendon is supposed to be located. The pain went away in about 24 hours, so I thought it was okay. But this weekend during my long run, my foot started hurting again and I had to stop after 7k. This time the pain was worse than last time (i couldn't walk without limping that day and next) and now my foot is aching a bit but the acute pain is gone. I am running a 10k race at the end of November and was really keen to train properly for it to run it in a decent time. I should probably forget about my hopes for a PB, but do you think if I give it two weeks, I can get back to training again? What can I do in the meanwhile to make sure the injury does go away? Any insights will be appreciated! |

Thanks Crimson. After my run today, I did walk for a few minutes to cool down. The tightness in my calf is okay now. I have been massaging it regularly and did a proper warm up today before my run and then stretching afterwards and it's not hurting at all. But unfortunately my left foot started hurting again during my run and I stopped running soon after the pain started. It's hurting quite a bit when I walk now. The pain is in my ankle joint. I am thinking of replacing running with other cardio exercises for two weeks and hopefully if it feels better, I will train in the last three weeks for my race (to get my time down below 1 hour). Feeling gutted about this, but I think this is the only way to go about it. Any suggestions? |
