Hi all, just thought I would join in. I hate that its getting so dark, I was out Monday night and it was fine, then all of a sudden it was pitch black and the street lights were on. So ive gone and bought some reflective bands as I run round roads where people tend to like speeding and may not see me. Agentginger, I totally get what youre saying about a plod- I always get told off a I "sound like an elephant" when walking even though not overweight but im so heavy footed and this carries on in my running which I need to be careful with as seems to be making my knee play up I have finally been able to reach my 5 mile marker in about 7 weeks, so pleased as its seriously hard work but now im there I want to go further and its really addictive! I'm only getting about 10 minutes a mile, but Im really pleased with that and just hoping I can maintain that time even with more mileage. |

I’ve always wanted to run the London marathon- I entered a couple of times but never got in, so this year tried the charities and I got offered a place mid-August! But I also have spreadsheets, one where I have set myself weekly targets on where I want to be by the end of the week ( I couldn’t rely on the 16 week plan that most people recommend as I know I wont be able to cover the distance) so I’m training now for it. In about 7 weeks ive got from 1.5 to 5 miles comfortably, im so pleased. But my aim is to run an extra mile every couple of weeks and maintain my pace which is about 10 minutes a mile. I know this isn’t that great but it’s a pace I feel good at and still enjoying. When I feel more confident then I’ll start looking to improve this. But I agree with you Also-ran, its so addictive! I just need to look at my diet now |

Hey Jake, I just wanted to say well done and I loved reading this! Im the same where I kept getting stuck at 4 miles, and I went running Friday night and the heavens just opened up! I am a bit of a girly girl so to start with I wasn’t impressed getting soaked as I was going out straight after the run, but then I was so grateful as it really cooled me down and I loved the feel of the rain on my arms, plus I seriously need to get used to it over winter. I can only run in leggings and a vest, I hate wearing anything else so in the winter it may be a problem but ill cross that bridge when I come to it. But I agree with exiled claret that its hard to get the right jacket that breathes and also stays waterproof so ill be interested if anyone does recommend a reasonably priced decent one otherwise I may freeze a little over winter J |

Hi Hilary, I found out also that I’ve got my place through a charity which I’m super excited about. I used to run about 10 years ago so a long time ago now but always wanted to do the marathon. I’ve been running about 4 weeks now and ive already gone from 1 mile to 3 miles comfortably and now pushing myself to run 4 miles this week- although im only doing it in about 10 mins a mile As someone has already said though, its important to have a rest day in between and I try and push myself when I have more time at least once a week to go that little bit further. Also vary your routes, I did the stupid thing of running the same lap through town and it got so boring! *I wouldn’t mind some advice though from someone- I try running in the mornings when I get up, but it makes me feel seriously sick and I don’t feel comfortable doing more than 2.5 miles- what can I do to stop this?! I wouldnt mind some advice though from someone- I try running in the mornings when i get up, but it makes me feel seriously sick and I dont feel comforatble doing more than 2.5 miles- what can i do to stop this?! |
