Ronhill are short, as dancing in spikes says.Try a medium, should be fine for you. Compression brands do offer good recovery, but they are pretty expensive if you just want to keep the cold out.

There are lots of videos demonstrating stretches and basic exercises on the US site (www.runnersworld.com) that you can do at home, might be able to find something useful for yourself. For weights you could use 400g tins of beans if you dont have mini dumbells or a resistance band.

My first thought was that you might just need to work on some upper body strength, and the back in particular.

Both Sweatshop in the Arndale and Up and Running in the Triangle (where the big TV screen is opposite Selfridges) have treadmills in the stores to analyse your gait.

Got a scar or two from slips on trail runs, but biggest fail while running for me was an attempted jump over a fence. Caught it with my back foot, and it was only a foot high.  I've had much worse accidents on a bike, mostly due to idiot drivers but there was one incident that would have been an instant hit on youtube.
