Just an update for anyone who is interested, had my op on new years eve 4 weeks & 2 days ago been in a lot of pain during that time and wouldn't wish this on my worse enemy. Getting better every day and one thing to take from all this is everyone is different and recovery times depend on how tollerant to pain you can be, me I'm not that tollerant :0( anyway I went for my 1st run today with the wife doing week 1 day 1 on her C25K app and everything seems like its going to be ok bit of discomfort during the walking stages but I am a runner once more.

Hi all. I'm awaiting inguinal hernia surgery and have quite a lot of localised pain most of the time unless I'm laid down flat on my back and I've been managing the pain with paracetamol & ibruprofen since the end of October I have at least 5 weeks until my op and wandered if there was a safer alternative pain relief that isn't going to give me long term health problems.

Thanks for that Bruce, I'm gonna stop looking on the internet searching about hernias all I seem to do is scare my self but its nice to get positive feedback from someone who has gone through what I'm going through. Been to doc's a couple of times now but all they want to do is sign me off sick and not rush an appt at hospital so will have to wait but its only 2 more weeks I will deff ask if I can be put on a cancellation list but hopefully when he/she sees the pain I am in they will pencil me in for sooner rather than later. Cheers mate.

Hi Bruce, how is the recovery going ? did you find you needed compression shorts ? I have recently found I have a right sided inguinal hernia and don't see consultant until Dec 3rd and hoping for a fast turn around operation wise as I am in quite a lot of pain. Also did you have to wait long from diagnosis to consultaion/surgery ?
