Hi guys, now that I am doing a bit more running and I like stats I am thinking I would like to see how close my heart is exploding. The issue I have is that I have an aging iphone 3 and all the bluetooth HRM I can find appear to only be for newer models, are there any straps that I could use or is there another option, I would like to be able to see the data in Strava but also use Runkeeper when I want to listen to the nice lady telling me how slow I am going.
Hi apeman, I started running a couple of months ago and am really enjoying the challenge, sounds like you have a nice goal. I love stats and would recommend 2 phone apps which have kept my motivation in check. 1st off is Strava which is just amazing and pits you against other runners that run parts of your route, the 2nd is Runkeeper which gives good stats like Strava but also has loads of free training programs which are spoken to you as you run the nice Runkeeper lady can tell you all sorts of stats on the run such as distance, pace, time etc. Aplogise if you are already familiar with them but they do help me.
Cheers Andi, good to hear from another newbee, I have been pretty comfortable running 5k but the pain happened before I went for the 10k which just happened as I was in a new area and got a bit lost and the further I ran the better my legs felt.
I do find it hard to run at a different pace for some reasons, no matter if I run 2 miles or 6 my pace is always similar, I found this when I rode my bike, 100 mile pace was not far off a 30 mile one.
Great advice Shedboy, I don't really stretch enough before my runs and have been thinking of getting a roller so I may start with those.
I have always thought of running as a boring pastime compared to cycling but work commitments left me with little time to ride so I tried running and love it, have not been on a bike in ages. I have found a good running buddy which has helped.
Thanks for all the kind comments, I will probably be asking lots of questions in the coming weeks.
