Good luck to all my fellow edinburgh marathon runners - especially those nursing injuries I won't be carrying a rucksak either I am in the white pen: I will be one of several wear a 'Gala Harriers' running vest - i'll be the one with peachy written on the front... go figure This weeks taper feels just plain wrong - giving what i've got coming up in a month ...anyhoos How are you guys planning to track their progress on the wall I will have my phone - iphone5 - but it won't be able to gps it the whole way without an additional battery pack... and i dont normally run with it so don't actually know how long it lasts... Usually i use the Nike Sportswatch - but it only lasts about 6 hours and has been fine on all my training runs... can it be charge while on the go: i don't have a battery pack to try this with so any suggestions on what to do? |

hotels: yeah prices compared to the week before/after are high... i've booked into the central travelodge too... so what are we all doing for dinner on friday night? new backpack bought: salomon agile 12l - no idea how good its going to be but couldn't really justify the 'special' backpacks at twice the price, also don't know how much stuff i'll need or if i would have got away with the little 6L tesco thing that new shoes bought: Salomon XA cross 3d 2 extremelylongname's - my road shoes soles are all too worn to run on damp grass and hills, and my speedcross 3's have way too an agressive tread and no cushioning for roads Cliff shots: not tried that brand but have had the gatorade chews and the Gu chomps - i'm guessin' they are similar: great for eating before races in that nervous wait before the gun: release/disolve slower than gels... but are they any better than glorified jelly babies? dunno.the ones i have had were a lot stronger in taste tho. |

after reading this thread for weeks - i have finally committed I've signed up to do the expert solo run: so add me to the list This is going to be my first ultra: it's probably a little early in my running career but the chances are that i won't be able to do this on in the future [moving Oz is on the horizon] I've been all marathoned trained up since not doing NY2012, and have kept up decent levels since then, and I'm in for the Edinburgh marathon... and been training for that Add in a couple of B2B 15 milers thrown in, and running the 6 miles to work and back each day with a backpack on: fingers crossed... But i've never gone beyond marathon distance - and thats been at marathons, at pace. 70 miles seems daunting. RE: midges... im based in the scottish borders and i've never put any midge repellant on for any of my runs... But i don't know if the 'south' has any! |

i think you are talking about 'rain on a sunny day'? Cheers for the reminder! And one tip that i've been given at work: take my own waterbottle so i can skip past the more crowded areas around the water stations/refreshments. And as i have been carry my own water and gels on all my long runs - not a problem. And it is definately worth get in touch with the organisers - thanks for the tip [sports tours say 'don't even ask us']; i'll try email and take evidence to the expo... and they can only say no... |
