I love the support and comfort of the Lunar Glide 4 Shields I got in January so much so I bought another pair in April and ran the London Marathon in them with no injury problems whatsoever.
My only gripe with the Lunar Glides is that I get blisters on the side/underneath of my big toes on any run over 5 miles (obviously not ideal for a marathon!). I have tried a variety of different socks - Nike Dri Fits, Asics, Hilly etc and have the same problem with all of them. My first pair were a size 7 so I bought a size 7.5 hoping the extra room would help with my feet breathing but no luck. Ive even done the soaking my feet in surgical spirit for 2 months to try and toughen my skin up.
After the marathon I decided to buy a pair of Asics Gel Excel 33's and so far so good on the blister front but I do not find them as comfortable (blisters excluded!) as the Lunar Glides.
Has anyone else had similar blister problems with them and if so is there a remedy for it?
Ok just so I understand this would someone be able to clarify how this all works?
I'm a 35 year old male, ran 3.13.50 on Sunday which obviously falls short of the sub 3.10 good for age category I'm in.
On the VLM website it says for 2013 race that you needed to submit proof of a sub 3.10 marathon by 13th July 2012, I'm guessing the same will apply this year. Does this mean you still have to apply through the ballot next Monday or do you submit a separate entry?. I've been rejected four years on the bounce through ballot (ran through golden bond this year) and was really hoping to crack sub 3.10 but missed the boat. What is the chance of getting a good for age place if you have done the time? Is it 100% or 50/50? I guess I need to have another crack at a marathon before mid July really!
Great race but like others had a few problems with the football pitch and the orchard type area where the ground was very uneven and probably lost a minute or so. Was suffering with blisters at this point and this made it even worse!!
Apart from this I really enjoyed it, was quite a demanding route in places and tested me significantly over the last 3 miles.
Great prep for VLM and very happy with my 2.19.26 over such a course!
