Thanks everyone for your advice, think I will take myself along to the running shop to get my shoes checked out.

I am relatively new to running, running for just a year with 6 miles being my longest run.  Occasionally my ankles ache whilst I am running, do you think this can be down to the trainers I am using, they are Nike Running trainers but I wondered if there is somewhere you can go to get specific ones to suit your instep etc.,  I want to increase my distance over the course of this year as I want to do a half marathon before the end of the year?
