Simonp83, Can't recommend a runner's watch highly enough. I used to use my phone too, but the hassle of start/stopping accurately was a real pain. The last straw was failing and landing on it. The screen didn't take it to well.
As for training plans, personally I can't seem to find something that I can gel with, as a shift worker, my nights and days can be a little screwy.
My first marathon last month was done with plenty of LSRs and over confidence. Having said that, I got around Portsmouth to plan in 4:22 so was very pleased.
Attempting to repeat that performance in early April, then up my game for a sub 4 in Edinburgh.
Another Edinburgh victim here! Also looking for a sub 4 finish and would pleased to meet up with anybody hoping to run at similar pace on the day.
This'll be my second marathon, although I'm thinking of attempting the Belvoir Challenge in early March, so could be the third. Belvoir is mostly cross country so more of a training experience rather than a race for me.
I was a couple of minutes behind you, and too felt I'd taken a wrong turn having followed the detour instructions. I ended up blindly following those in front of me and hoping we'd find the prom eventually
Not sure I'll be signing up for this again, but that's because of the timing and location rather than the course or organisation..
