Thanks Minni et al - this has been an inspirational thread. I'm over fifty, a mediocre runner and a rower. I can swim BS head up for ever (slowly), but go backwards when I FC. I haven't ridden a road bike for about 25 years.
The swim part has been putting me off, but I'm keen to give IM a tri (sorry). I'm booked into the UltimateTrails 55km Ultra next June, but after that I want to go longer without destroying my legs. I've been to the rowing lake at Holme Pierrepont (Outlaw) and walked and run around it. The thought of swimming it twice is beyond comprehension ... and so the challenge is born.
You've all convinced me that I can learn to FC. Cycling just need doing. I fancy the Kielder ID as it's just up the road:
I've been trying to find an answer to this very question. I've signed up for the Ultimate Trails 55km next June and the kit list is comprehensive: full body waterproofs; spare baselayer top; hat gloves; first aid kit; emergency food & drink etc.
I can probably squeeze it all into a Mountain Hardware Fluid Race Vest (6 litres), but should I be going for something larger?
