Folks, thought I'd post this up as it came round on our club's Yahoo group - may interest folks in Aberdeenshire....
ATTENTION ALL RUNNERS ! Message from Kevin Tulloch: One of the girls that runs with us at Metro, Kerri Bates is organising a running shoe/athletic clothing collection to be sent to Malawi in Africa as follows:
DONATE YOUR OLD RUNNING SHOES TO AFRICA
Have you got any old running shoes lying around at home, that perhaps:
Have done their 500 miles but are still in pretty good nick... OR Never quite offered the right over pronation support in the medial arches... OR Are in last season’s colours? PLEASE PASS THEM ON TO A POTENTIAL ATHLETE IN MALAWI!
The Church of Scotland in Aberdeen are organising a container of good quality donated goods to be shipped to Malawi in September 2007. Metro Aberdeen Running Club, Run-4-It and The Running Shop are helping to arrange a collection of new and used running shoes to be sent for distribution through a local partner organisation in Blantyre, Malawi. The aim is to enable potential runners to receive a pair of shoes that may enable them to exercise their natural talents. Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world and many people have no shoes or own just one pair of sandals. The economy of Malawi is currently estimated to be worth half that of Falkirk.
Please hand in your shoes to The Running Shop on South Mount St, or Run-4-It on Holburn St - the cleaner the better (not caked in mud) with a note of the size and any other useful information inside. Please limit your donations to running shoes that are in a reasonable condition. Children’s sports shoes will however be gratefully received, as will sports watches and athletic vests and shorts. The deadline for donations is Aug 31st 2007.
For further information please call Kerri on 01224 491759 or ask at one of the shops.
Thank you very much!!! |

I guess that depends on what other treatment you are receiving. I had rather a badly inflamed achilles at the end of last year and it took 3-4 months of intensive physio involving ultrasound and acupunture to sort it out.
I'm sure it wouldn't do any harm, although any time I read things about glucosamine, it seems that the jury is still out on whether it does what its proponents say it does! |
