Thanks to all for your input. He runs outside with my cousin at least once a week but now that its summer he'll probably do most of his running outside either on the local track or trails nearby.
My son is 9.5 years old and has developed a habit of running 3x/week for upto half an hour on the treadmill. He does most of his running at 8km/hr or 7.30m/km. Occassionally he'll run 2x15min at 9km/hr or 6.40min/km and very rarely 3x5min at 10km/hr or 6min/km. Between intervals he walks 5 min.
He has already taken part and completed successfully two races one for 5.5km and the other for 6km and both times his pace was 6min/km. His self confidence is sky high and he feels real good about it.
My question is whether a kid so young should run or not. The so called experts in my area advise not to as he will burn but i can see he really enjoys it.
Does anyone know where i can find a size converter between the different shoe brands? I run in NB, Adidas and Asics shoes and while some of their sizes match some others don't.
If i remember correctly Start Fitness had a size converter on their old website where i could see what size i should order for say Mizuno if my Adidas was UK10. This is now gone. They even showed the equivalent UK,US,European and Japanese sizes.
Thanks croc. Your views are very helpful. I also believe these 50 milers to be of great help in running. I think i will splash the bucks soon and get a good bike :-)
Johnny J your views are very valid and appreciated. Is the expense involved a real deterrent? What about the benefits derived from cycling? Are they worth taking the plunge cos i am seriously interested in buying a top bike?
Croc can you please elaborate further on the observed gain from cycling as i am sure there are bound to be some? Do you feel you can run longer at a given pace or even faster?
