Hi you can hand in your medical certificates or copies of it, on the day. It's a great run but be warned if you look at the profile the first 20km don't look too bad but you are constantly ascending and descending. Then from the halfway point there is some serious climbing. You climb straight up the mountainside under the cable car it's relentless. Fantastic scenery. Tempted to do it again, so many events so little time!!!
From experience I can tell you that Paul Bateson of Axarsport runs a fantastic 5 day Al Andalus Ultra, that is equal to the MdS but is only a fraction of the costs. His training camps are run over the same rough and extremely mountainous terrain. We even had Lahcen Ahansal 10 X MdS winner running this year.
When I was training of the 2007 MdS, 3 of us got Easyjet flight to Marrakech (£90 return) walked out of the airport and got a taxi over the Atlas mountains to Ouarzazate (£60 each way) the taxi journey was the trip of a lifetime it’s self. We could have got a coach cheaper but didn't want to wait around. We were directed by the taxi driver a fantastic little down market boutique hotel, (4 days costing about £40 each). Ouarzazate is the registration place for the MdS with a fantastic sand swept film studio in the middle of nowhere. There is some fantastic training ground within running distance, hard climbs and massive sand flats. Just take loads of sweets for the local kids. Fill up your camelbak with water and go until you run out!!!!
Thermals underwear and a flask of hot sweet tea on the top then.
Looks like a head wind on the way out and a bit of a tail wind once we go over the top of Kendal. Should made going up Kirkstone Pass easier, i think not!!!
