Tr - really don't know what problem is as symptoms have made it appear to be different things at different times. Went out and did 14 miles today to see if I might get around next Saturday but run did not go all that well - however yesterday was not a good day food/drink wise (lack of not too much) so not sure if I took a backward step or if it was one of those days. Common sense tells me not to run next week but when did runners ever have any of that. Will try another run tomorrow and see what happens
Anyway good luck to all taking part next week

TR - i could do with that 1 week marathon plan. Have been getting seriously slower for last 2 years without being able to discover why (and thats allowing for getting older) - have seen physio's chriopractors etc and next month due to have some neurology tests and a spine scan.
About 2 weeks ago i was down to almost 15 minute miling (took 1:57 for a 8 mile run - if you can call it running) and was about to call it a day - had cancelled hotel room and resigned myself to not taking part.
However after yet another physio appointment on Friday last week with much the same treatment as previously have suddenly started running quicker again for no real apparent reason - did that 8 mile run in 1:24 which while still not a fantastic time was a massive improvement on 2 weeks ago and then today went out and did 5 miles in 47:26 which for this particular run was the fastest i have done it this year. Not sure if this sudden improvement will prove to be a false dawn (i really hope not as it is a wonderful feeling to be running a bit faster again and not just surviving) and am now having thoughts of doing race after all - really not sure what to do but desperate to do a race as i have not completed any races this year.
The other problem is while i tried to keep training most days and have averaged around 35 miles per week have not done a run over 10 miles for a while now - however i have done over 60 marathons in the past so i do have the experience to maybe go for a 'get around' attempt.
What to do???
