I didn't say they were. I said the journo's are. And I guess I didn't mean that - it is the editorial tone that is, at times, all of those. Most Sun readers I know are ordinary folks - I was paying the Sun a compliment, apologies if that is so rare it caused confusion.
According to a writing skills course I once went on the Sun has a reading age of 7. But this makes it one of the best writen papers you can get. Any fool can ramble on using big words and long sentences. It takes real skill to boil very complex stories down to two paragraphs of one syllable words and work in a double entendre!
So the readers might have a reputation for being thick but the journalists are skilled artisans.
Sexist, perverted, xenophobic, facists maybe but skilled artisans definitely.
Take 2 undyed smoked haddock fillets and lightly poach, fry off a choped onion in a knob of butter, add a teaspoon or 3 of hot curry powder and fry for 30 seconds before adding 8 fl oz of rice. Stir well then add 16 fl oz of the poaching water. Bring to the boil then cover and simmer gently until the rice soaks up all the liquid (20 mins) Flake the fish, hardboil and chop 2 eggs, chop a good handful of parsley and stir this lot into the rice with a tablespoon of lemon juice.
