'BEST SHOE IN THE WORLD? NOT FOR ME'
Strengths:
Very smooth heel-to toe in a straight line, decent heel cushioning, light
Weaknesses:
Intrusive plastic arch support, awkward lacing makes it difficult to tie them right, loose heel, not stable enough laterally, grip especially in the wet
Overall:
Too wide + poor lacing and grip = sore feet

I am 16 stone, run about 25+ mpw split evenly between trail and road. I bought these as backup road shoes to alternate with my Nike Structure Triax 8s. I also wear NB906 trail shoes with no problems. Compared to the Nikes the Asics are pretty similar in weight, cushioning and smoothness, but I haven't got on with them from day one.

Every time I have run in them I've come back with sore feet. At first the plastic arch support made the outside of my arches ache after a couple of miles. I tried tying them tighter to hold my foot more centrally, but it's impossible to tighten the instep part of the laces enough without them being so tight over the midfoot that it hampers the flex of my foot.

Because I can't get the laces to hold my heels in place properly, my heels move too much in them and my feet slide within them when going round corners, negating the stability features. This is even worse in the wet when they lose grip and slide ridiculously easily. I have slightly narrow feet, but wear normal width fittings in all my other shoes without this happening.

I may try them again once I have completed my half - mainly because I spent money on them, but I don't need sore feet at the moment, so I've just bought some more Nikes instead.

'DECENT BASIC TRAIL SHOE'
Strengths:
Good grip, particularly on gravel, good protection on rough stuff, well-cushioned
Weaknesses:
Stiff, heavy especially when soaked, very slow to dry, started to disintegrate around the ankle collar pretty quickly
Overall:
Not particularly supportive but fairly well-cushioned, pretty good value, superb up gravelly or muddy hills.

'LIGHT, WELL-CUSHIONED, STABLE AND COMFORTABLE'
Strengths:
Very smooth running, comfortable cushioning, good support and stability, good grip in the wet, fairly durable (my first pair have done nearly 250 miles and are still going and I'm over 16 stone so this is pretty good)
Weaknesses:
The best shoes I've tried so far. My only minor quibble is that the rubber arch supports unstuck themselves from my first pair after about 180m and started moving around, but I just stuck them back on and they have been fine since.
Overall:
I'm onto my second pair now, and I'll probably buy my third if they are still on sale when these start to show their age.
