Strengths: My virtual partner never catches cold, strains a muscle, slows at hills, (s)he just goes on and on at a steady pace. The pacing tools on this little gizmo are wonderful, and I really feel lonely when I go for a run without them. I'm not the sort of person who can keep a diary beyond about 12th January in any year, but my forerunner 201 does it for me, and then downloads onto my computer afterwards, with all those lovely data.
Weaknesses: Not so reliable on cold wet days, with heavy cloud cover and lots of rain. But who is?! The buttons can be a bit fiddly, especially the "mode" button that needs quite a hard press. But on the whole these are minor niggles. The time Mr Garmin takes to find his bearings is the time I used to loosen up and stretch a little before going off on my run, so he reminds me to do that too!
Overall: Excellent little virtual companion. Like a sort of secretary come slave driver.
Strengths: I bought a pair as a replacement for my old Legends. These feel lighter and more responsive, with a better grip and deeper/better tread for getting through muddy patches on the road..
Weaknesses: Not quite as controlling as the Legend. The forefoot cushioning seems a little thin, but this contributes to the light feeling of being in touch with the road ... a question of taste I guess.
Overall: Light supportive shoe which suites me (an overpronator). Very comfortable to wear .... no rubbing or blisters. In fact I have found this to be true of all Mizunos that I have bought. You can get it a lot cheaper than the advertised £90 by looking around.
Strengths: It does almost everything I need: tells me my heart rate, tells me how long I have been running, tells me the time, provides me with an alarm. The battery in the watch and chest strap can be replaced easily by the owner. The watch fits nicely on my moderately small wrist and the styling is discrete enough that I feel happy wearing it as my everyday watch as well. The buttons/functions work fairly intuitively.
Weaknesses: This is the basic end of the range HRM from Nike, reflected in the price, so you may be disappointed if you need to store several sessions, or download data to computer etc.
Overall: I didn't want to spend too much, and especially didn't want to buy extra features that I would never use. This monitor tells me just what I need, and no more, which is great!
