'MILD FLAVOUR AND EASY ON THE STOMACH, BUT TOO BULKY FOR ME'
Strengths: Subtle flavour, fairly thin consistency (not as thin as High5 but thinner than most), easy to swallow, doesn't need to be taken with water, the easiest on the stomach of any gel I've tried, contains no simple sugar.
Weaknesses: Low energy density (1.5kcal per gram of weight, compares with 2.4 for High5 and 2.75 for Carb-Boom!), so you're carrying more bulk around.
Overall: These gels have a very subtle flavour, are easy to swallow and very easy on the stomach. They contain more water than most other gels though, so you're carrying more bulk around. I'd need 6 of these for a marathon, and couldn't physically fit them in my pockets and I don't use them for this reason only. If you find other gels unpalatable, or want a gel with no simple sugar, these are definitely worth a try.
'THE THINNEST AND BEST TASTING GEL I'VE TRIED, BUT TOO SUGARY'
Strengths: Great taste, easy to swallow, easy on the stomach, small and easy to carry.
Weaknesses: 7g of simple sugar per pouch is too much for me and gives me an insulin spike leading to a blood sugar low.
Overall: The raspberry flavour is by far the nicest tasting of any gel I've tried, and it's also the thinnest and easiest to swallow. It also has good energy density (2.4kcal per gram of weight, compared with 1.5 for SiS Go Gel) which means you're carrying less bulk. This would be the perfect energy gel for me were it not for the 7g of simple sugar (SiS Go Gel has no simple sugar, Carb-Boom! has only 3g). This may not be an issue for many people, but make sure you try them in training before before you use them in a race.
