Strengths: I bought this shoe half way through my build up to running a marathon as I have had the previous incarnation (2130). I thought I knew what I was getting but was surprised. This shoe is even more comfortable feeling like a slipper without being loose. The cushioning is improved which is important for the heavier than average runner like myself.
Weaknesses: The 2140 could do to lose some weight, however, this is a minor complaint outweighed by all of the positives.
Overall: A great value for money shoe which is has made small but significant improvements on the previous model.
'A REALLY GOOD BOOST BUT TEST THEM ON YOUR TASTE BUDS'
Strengths: I was pleasantly surprised when I used Go gels on a long distance run. Unlike some gels they delivered the energy quickly to my failing legs. Also this didn't leave my hands, mouth, lips, and anything else that made contact with its contents as sticky as a tar pit. The consistency of this product is spot on for me not so runny that it leaks out of the packet as soon as it is opened but not so viscous that you have to chew it.
Weaknesses: I will warn you on one thing - flavour. Whilst I usually go for orange as my failsafe on any sports energy product I found that blackcurrant was far more palatable. As for the tropical flavour, it made me gag (much to the amusement of 3 little neds).
Overall: I have experimented with several different gels designed for long distance/endurance and have found this brand is by far the best at delivering energy to legs that are screaming for mercy. However I strongly recommend that you do a taste test before you buy a stack of gels or rather than keeping you going you'll be busy trying to keep your lunch down.
Strengths: This shoe definitely sorted out my wobbly ankles. Fairly light and (for want of a better description) low cut giving one's feet a fantastic feeling of freedom. I personally found the hold of the shoe good after fiddling with the laces 5 or 6 times. These Asics are also nicely vented which is a bonus for someone with over-heating sweaty trotters like mine.
Weaknesses: Two things have really disappointed me - 1, cushioning 2, the robustness.
The Gel system offered little in the way of cushioning. Although I am 186lb and therefore not the lightest of runners, I still expect some shock absorption. I tend to find that any heavy footfall is met with a judder going right up my body. I have run in these shoes for just under 300 miles now and the tread is wearing away. As I usually get 500 miles out of a pair of shoes this was something of a disappointment, especially on a tight budget.
Overall: This is a shoe that has great potential - light, corrective, super breathable, with slipper like comfort. Which is a shame as the cushioning on these shoes is a major let down. That coupled with the less than perfect shelf life does make for a shoe that promises much but lacks in two of the most important places.
